If last weekās romance-laced episode of Marshals had the U.S. Marshal team looking toward the future, this weekās outing is all about their pasts returning to haunt themāwith potentially deadly consequences.
Ending on a major cliffhanger, āBlowbackā is sure to have fans anxiously anticipating whatās to come next week, so hereās what you to stay caught up on the action:
Nothing personal
Things got tense for Cal this week, as his personal life took hits from seemingly all sides. First among them, the unexpected arrival of his and Kayceās former SEAL teammate Garrett (played by country music singer Riley Green in his acting debut.) While Kayce and Garrett still have a close bond, the animosity between the newcomer and Cal is immediately apparent.
It all ties back to their āfourth musketeerā Rhoner (Iām taking my best guess on that spelling, donāt @ me)āthe former brother in arms Kayce alluded to being killed in combat in one of the seasonās early episodes. While Kayce seems to have largely moved past blaming Cal for Rhonerās death, Garrett obviously has not, also blaming Cal for (in some as yet unrevealed way) getting him kicked out of the SEALs. Garrett has struggled with returning to civilian life, now living as a traveling musician, and seems content to settle in at Kayceās house for a while.
As if that werenāt enough, Cal also gets the 1-2 punch this episode of dealing with the fallout from his ill-fated kiss with Belle and the revelation that Miles is dating his daughter, Maddie.
Despite his insistence on keeping things professional, heās obviously taking his feelings out on both Belle and Miles (Bell for rejecting him, Miles for making a connection with his daughter when Maddie refuses to let him back into her life) when he sidelines them during an investigation of this weekās baddie, Reed Pollard. Cited as a āmodern-day Dillingerā Pollard is a bank robber who has been a longtime denizen Most Wanted list, and the team just so happens to have received an anonymous tip that heās planning a heist nearby.
With a lead that heās hiding out at the rodeo grounds, Cal, Kayce, and Andrea attempt a raid on the property, only to find themselves ambushed. The team takes out all but one of the assailants, presumably Pollard, who manages to escape, but thereās more to the situation than meets the eye. After manages to track down the escapee, so died of his wounds from the shootout, they realize that Pollard wasnāt among the crew. Adding to the mystery, none of the men who attacked them have any connection to Pollard or one another, nor any criminal records.

While Kayce makes a questionably timed trip home to check on Garrettāwhom he finds in the throes of a nightmare about Rhonerās deathāCal sends Andrea off to the ballistics lab alone to have the shooters guns analyzed while he himself slips off to an equally questionably-timed doctorās appointment.
As if Cal didnāt have enough to deal with this episode, the doctor implies that heās having some sort of serious health issue. Though the audio bleeds out, leaving it unclear exactly what condition heās suffering from, itās fair to expect this to be a significant plot point moving forward.
That will have to wait for another episode though, because this outing ramps into high gear when Andrea, on her way to the ballistics lab, is T-boned by another vehicle.
An eye for an eye
Back at HQ, things have only gotten stranger with their case, as Belle has managed to track down Pollard, who has been in jail in New Mexico for quite some time, with no evidence we was working on any heists in Montana. Given the anonymous tip that turned them onto the case in the first place, the team begin to suspect that this has all been a set up aimed at themāan impulse confirmed when Andreaās SUV is found and CCTV reveals that she was kidnapped from the scene.
As the team dedicates all of their resources to tracking her down, Andrea is taken to a property apparently in the middle of nowhere, where she finds out the mastermind behind this entire scheme: Randal Clegg.
Having lost his demolitions contract with the nearby mines after his sons orchestrated mass shooting events on the Broken Rock reservation, losing one of said sons in a shootout with the Marshals team and another to jail for the incident, Clegg apparently has nothing left to lose and means to take out his vengeance on the marshals.
Fortunately, the team manages to link the van Andrea was kidnapped in to Clegg and the team rushes to the rescue. They canāt afford to wait for backup (again) but things seem quiet on Cleggās land⦠at least until the team finds themselves in a shootout with a veritable army of Cleggās supporters. The episode comes to a dramatic close with them pinned down by gunfire and Andrea tied up in Cleggās basement, meaning weāll have to wait another week to see how, and if, all of the marshals make it out alive.
Odds & Ends -
Garrett is reportedly set for a four-episode arc this season, so expect to see more of his character as the season winds toward its finale. Likewise, expect some singing.
I realize that ānot waiting for backupā is a standard procedural trope (and an effective cost-saving measure for the production), but honestly, itās beginning to get a little ridiculous.
